OVERVIEW: The Tp 432 is a lightweight, wire-guided, anti-submarine torpedo developed by Sweden for air and ship launch. It offers selectable speed settings and an updated guidance and homing system.

DETAILS: “Tp” stands for Torped in Swedish nomenclature. The Tp 432 is part of the Tp 42 series introduced around 1987–1990 by FFV (later Saab Dynamics), designed for deployment from both helicopters and surface ships. It retains a 400 mm diameter, measures approximately 2.6 m in length, weighs around 298 kg, and carries a 45 kg warhead. It uses electric propulsion powered by silver-zinc batteries, features wire guidance during the mid-course phase, and switches to passive acoustic homing in the terminal phase. The torpedo offers selectable speeds—15, 25 or 35 knots—with extended range capabilities of up to 30 km at lower speeds.

TYPE: Lightweight Wire-Guided Anti-Submarine Torpedo (Air & Ship-Launched)

FUNCTION: Released from helicopters or surface vessels with 400 mm tube capability, the Tp 432 travels under wire guidance during its mid-course flight. It then transitions to autonomous passive acoustic homing to locate and engage submerged submarines in littoral or open-ocean conditions.
